Adventure Togs goes for Voice over IP (VoIP) solution

Catherine Graham runs Adventure Togs, a company which sells outdoor clothing for children. Catherine says on the Adventure Togs‘ Web site, “Adventure Togs aims to encourage our children to enjoy the outdoors by bringing together a collection of colourful, fun clothing and accessories in high quality technical fabrics”.

The business is run from an office in her home; the downside of this has been the need to separate the business from her home life. Therefore, Catherine wanted to avoid using her home telephone to receive orders and enquiries. She knew that an additional telephone line to the house would have required installation and rental costs and she already had a broadband link to the Internet. With the help of her eCommerce adviser, Mike Ward, she identified that a Voice over IP (VoIP) system would be the most cost effective solution and one which could be installed with the minimum of disruption.

Catherine signed up to Gossiptel, a company that provides Internet Telephony services to Broadband users.

Using a Gossiptel phone, calls are sent over the Internet rather than over the telephone network. This allows them to offer a number of very significant advantages over a normal telephone company such as:

• Much lower call costs to ‘ordinary’ phones nationally and internationally
• As many additional lines as you want with no extra line rental
• Free Voicemail, Caller ID, Call Diversion, 3-way calls and many other features.

Catherine has designated the Gossiptel number for receiving orders from her Web site so freeing up the home line. After hours when the computer system is switched off, the calls automatically divert to a Gossiptel voice mail service. The Swansea Bay IT Centre assisted Catherine by installing and configuring a broadband router, to provide the necessary secure link to the Internet needed for the service, and ensuring that her PCs were correctly configured to use the Internet connection securely.
