Gealy Knitwear cottons on to Internet Marketing
Gealy Knitwear has recently joined the Internet community with the creation of a website to help promote their products to local shops and directly to the target audience.
In the summer of 2004 Zoe Gealy was working for a big fashion design company in New York and returned to the United Kingdom whilst waiting for a visa. In the UK Zoe met her partner Lloyd, and decided to stay here with him as well as considering certain factors such as the fashion/textiles positions that are available in London, South East England and Nottingham.
Whilst researching the market in the UK, looking at the competition and prices, Zoe spoke to the owner of “Seren” in Tenby, Linda Rowlands who was interested in looking at winter scarf designs and from there the business was created in October, 2004.
Zoe used the IT infrastructure currently in place within the business to research the trends and UK competition. Through this infrastructure she also contacted shops that stock similar products to hers to see if they would be interested in selling Gealy Knitwear products and was able to receive customer orders and tax returns via email. In addition, all the financial and advertising information is stored on the computer.
Owner Zoe Gealy says “the decision for the creation of a promotional business website, which was largely driven by requests from friends and associates, was taken to gain a larger audience, sell directly to customers and refer shops to a website.
As with many SME’s, Gealy Knitwear had limited website design experience. Zoe Gealy said “as neither Lloyd nor I had any web site design experience, we needed a professional to check things over and tweak it all before it went live”. This was where the Swansea Bay IT Support Centre was able to step in and offer help and guidance.
Having completed stage 1 of their website development, Gealy Knitwear are now looking to expand their knowledge of e-Marketing tips and techniques and are not ruling out the implementation of on-line payment facilities.
